discus throw

Discus - The Discus throw was an event in the ancient olympic games, and was one of the five events of the pentathlon. The discus was usually made of either stone, bronze, lead, or iron. From artifacts that have been excavated from the past weighed from 1,3 km to 6,6 km. They also ranged from having a diameter of 17 to 35 cm. The reason they had a variety of sizes were because boys and adults had different sizes of discusses, the boys having smaller ones. The official discusses of the olympic games were kept in the treasury of the Sikyonians. As for actually throwing the discus, methods varied. A thrower who was right handed might bring his left foot forward by shifting his weight to his right. He then may swing the discus back and forth and on his last swing, move his weight to his left foot, and throw the discus. The ancient greek athletes would not spin around like modern athletes do today, therefore they probably did not throw as far.
